The Man in the Mauve Hat
Case Summary:
Over the course of our investigation, The Man in the Mauve Hat has identified a number of victims who all claim to have been defrauded by ANDREW PETER WHITE,a rogue builder operating in the Bedfordshire area.

The victim's stories are all remarkably similar. WHITE - a charming character by all accounts - will arrive at their property to provide a quote before demanding a down payment, to 'secure the job' or to cover the liability involved in ordering materials ... which are subsequently never ordered.

However, like all good con-men, WHITE is rarely satisfied with a single payment, and will often demand more money upfront. Sometimes, to secure these extra payments, WHITE will appear to begin the work, or deliver a small amount of materials; but don't be fooled, once he has the next installment, he's quick to disappear.
How does he do this? Well, he advertises on marketplace websites - like findatrade.com or bark.com - which means there is no link back to him. The company name he uses does not belong to a registered company and the email addresses and mobile numbers are unattributable. Even the physical addresses he provides on his invoices, whilst in existence, do not belong to WHITE.

But, despite his best efforts, ANDREW WHITE cannot hide from The Man in the Mauve Hat! We've tracked WHITE down to the address he shares with his fiance. We've identified the real companies he uses to obfuscate his deceit. We've uncovered his real email address, telephone number and social media accounts.
We believe that by advertising under a false company name, and by providing false contact details on an official invoice, WHITE has demonstrated that he has no intention of completing the works he accepts money for. In our opinion, WHITE has committed fraud by dishonestly representing himself as a legitimate tradesman in order to make a monetary gain.
We have presented our findings on this site, in the hope that WHITE might finally be brought to justice.
